SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Before he could do anything after the game, Felipe Alou had to take his daily "acidity'' pill, as he calls it.

In Wednesday's wild 15-11 victory over the San Diego Padres, the San Francisco manager just couldn't find time for it when he usually does -- during the fifth or sixth inning.

You'd think if there was ever a game he'd need to take his prescription anti-acidity pill on time, this was it.

"It's a pre-wine pill,'' the 67-year-old Alou said with a smile, breaking out a glass of red wine a few minutes later.

Pedro Feliz had a career-high four hits for the Giants in the highest-scoring game at 3-year-old Pacific Bell Park.

The first inning alone featured 11 runs. The Giants' first seven
batters scored against Dennis Tankersley, called up from the minors
to make an emergency start.

The 26 runs surpassed the previous high of 22 set in the Dodgers' 14-8 win on June 26, 2001.

There were 31 hits, 16 by San Francisco. There was not a 1-2-3 inning until the top of the sixth.

"This turned out to be a marathon instead of a matinee,'' said
Alou, a former Giant whose team is 8-1 and off to the best start in
San Francisco history. "I have been here many times when there
have been hitting days like this. It happened at Seals (Stadium),
it happened at Candlestick and it happened here today.''

Yorvit Torrealba drove in three runs for the defending NL West
champions and Jose Cruz Jr. doubled and made two great plays in
right field. Cruz has hit safely in all nine games this season with
his new team.

Ryan Klesko splashed a homer into McCovey Cove and drove in two runs, giving him an RBI for the fifth straight game. Rondell White hit a three-run homer in the first, but Tankersley (0-1) had the Padres trying to play catch-up all day.

Joe Nathan (1-0) gave up one hit in two innings.

"It's definitely not one of those games you want to get in as a pitcher,'' Nathan said. "It's a game for hitters.''

Tankersley walked Barry Bonds on five pitches in the first with
runners at first and second to load the bases for Cruz, who was
moved from second to fifth in the order behind Bonds on Wednesday
and will stay there for now.

Cruz walked on five pitches to score Feliz, and J.T. Snow walked
to score Rich Aurilia.

Tankersley walked three straight batters on 16 total pitches.

Torrealba added a two-run double to the corner in right that chased Tankersley. The right-hander didn't get a single out in his first outing of 2003.

Tankersley was called up from Triple-A Portland late Tuesday as
a fill-in for Clay Condrey, scratched from his start because of a
strained right groin. Condrey ended up pitching an inning in relief.

In four career appearances against the Giants, Tankersley has
allowed 14 earned runs with a 24.71 ERA in 5 1/3 innings.

"I've been sitting here for two hours trying to figure it out,'' he said, still dressed in everything but his uniform top. "Every time I get here I try to turn myself into a sinker pitcher. That's not me. Every two-seamer ran off the plate and I never made the adjustment. For some reason I keep making the same stupid mistakes, and I can't do that.''

Tankersley was slated to return to Triple-A anyway.

Jaret Wright struck out Ruben Rivera, the eighth batter, for the first out, then pitcher Ryan Jensen hit a two-run single for the Giants, who sent 12 batters to the plate in the first. Feliz had two hits in the inning.

White homered on the first pitch he saw from Jensen in the first as the Giants dug themselves a 4-0 hole. Jensen allowed eight runs and seven hits in two innings.

White hit the tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning of the
Padres' 9-4 win Tuesday that ended San Francisco's season-opening
seven-game winning streak.

Torrealba had a sacrifice fly in the second for his third RBI of the game, which matched a career high set July 3, 2002, at Colorado.

"They can out-thunder you,'' Padres manager Bruce Bochy said,
"and that's what happened today.''

Game notes
Alou will go for his 700th win Thursday as the Giants open
a three-game home series against the Dodgers. ... Giants LHP Jason
Christiansen began his rehab assignment, pitching one inning for
Class-A San Jose. He underwent reconstructive ligament surgery on
his left elbow last May 30. The Giants hope he can return to the
team June 1. ... Klesko's homer was the fifth ball hit into the
water by a Giants' opponent at Pac Bell. ... The two starting
pitchers combined to throw 94 pitches in two innings. ... Padres 3B
Sean Burroughs did not start for the second straight game because
of soreness in his right shoulder. He pinch-hit in the third.
