Victor's late goal rescues a point for Levante against Espanyol

Victor salvaged a late leveller against Espanyol to lift Levante out of the Primera Division relegation zone with a point from a 2-2 draw.

The Frogs were second best throughout at the Ciutat de Valencia but had enough about them to twice peg back Espanyol.

First, Simao cancelled out Lucas' opener and as time ticked away Victor was on hand to negate the effect of Felipe Caicedo's strike all the way back in first-half stoppage time.

The point lifts Levante to 16th while Almeria slip into the bottom three and Deportivo La Coruna move into 17th ahead of their meeting with Atletico Madrid.

Espanyol, who remain in eighth place, started brightly with Sergio Garcia looking for Caicedo's head with his ninth-minute cross.

Kiko Casilla did well to deny Jose Luis Morales as Levante bit back, and Espanyol exploited their hosts' disappointment to race down the other end and score.

Vazquez made the most of a spilled effort from Victor Sanchez after Diego Marino made a poor decision when trying to clear.

Levante only had to wait three minutes to equalise. Nabil El Zhar took the corner that Simao rose to meet, turning the ball beyond Casilla to restore parity.

The home side might have turned the game on its head before the break if Kalu Uche had made a better connection with El Zhar's pass, but it would be the visitors who struck the next blow.

A minute into stoppage time Caicedo completed a flowing team move by clipping home Alvarez' neat pass.

Levante looked to claw their way back into the game when play resumed but Morales missed the mark when put through by David Barral.

From then on it was all Espanyol, but the Catalans would struggle to press home their advantage.

Ruben Duarte, Sanchez and Alvarez all gave Marino food for through before the Levante keeper dived across his goalmouth to keep out substitute Christian Stuani at the end of a swift counter-attack.

Sergio Garcia had provided the pass and he tried his luck himself in the 71st minute, shooting narrowly wide when set up by Vazquez.

However, with only three minutes remaining, Levante raised their game and a rare foray forward delivered a second leveller.

Juanfran put the ball into the box for Uche, but it was Victor who stole in front of his team-mate to turn home a dramatic equaliser.
