Chile remain on course for a place in the Copa America quarterfinals -- but they had to settle for a point from an entertaining 3-3 draw with Group A rivals Mexico in Santiago.
Mexico twice led in the first half -- but they were pegged back on each occasion and ultimately needed Matias Vuoso's second goal of the game midway through the second half to earn them a point at the Estadio Nacional.
Argentina-born Vuoso started the scoring in the 21st minute, hooking in from six yards against the run of play.
The home side were level within 90 seconds, when Arturo Vidal headed powerfully in from a Charles Aranguiz corner.
The next chance in an open contest fell to the visitors in the 28th minute when Gerardo Flores saw his header from Jesus Corona's cross tipped against the bar by Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
When the resulting corner came in, taken by Adrian Aldrete, Raul Jimenez made good contact with a header from 12 yards and it proved too precise for Bravo to keep out, although the keeper got his fingertips on it.
Alexis Sanchez was narrowly off target with a 33rd minute free-kick -- but, after Vidal had been booked for a rash challenge on Corona, Chile did manage to find a second equaliser.
Three minutes before half-time Eduardo Vargas produced a carbon copy header of Vidal's earlier effort to round off an impressive move involving the Juventus midfielder, Sanchez and Mauricio Isla.
Chile were ahead nine minutes after the break. Vidal sending Corona the wrong way from the spot after he had been fouled by Flores as he sought to run on to a Sanchez pass.
In the 64th minute the hosts had a Jorge Valdivia goal ruled out for offside, and two minutes later they were pegged back to 3-3 by Mexico. A long ball from Aldrete found Vuoso and he beat Bravo to get the decisive touch and level the scores.
With 18 minutes remaining Sanchez and Vidal teamed up to create an opening for Valdivia, whose low right foot shot went just wide.
In the 80th minute Sanchez had the ball in the net, but again a marginal offside decision went against the hosts as the Arsenal livewire was ruled offside.
Chile looked the more likely winners in the closing stages but they had to settle for a point which leaves them top of the group with Bolivia on four points, two clear of Mexico and four ahead of pointless Ecuador.
