Christian Kouakou's late wonder goal gives Caen draw with Monaco

Substitute Christian Kouakou's late bicycle-kick salvaged a draw for Caen as they twice came from behind to hold Monaco 2-2.

Alaeddine Yahia's own goal looked to have secured a win for Monaco after Julien Feret's penalty had cancelled out Thomas Lemar's stunning opener, but Kouakou scrambled home a last-gasp effort to lift Caen into the top three, eight points behind their second-placed opponents.

All four goals came in the second half after a turgid opening period, which saw Vincent Bessat and Lemar have the only two real chances for either side, with neither goalkeeper tested.

Proceedings livened up after the break, with the highly-rated Lemar the man to break the deadlock.

The 20-year-old stepped up in the 55th minute to strike a stunning free kick from 30 years which went in off the far post of Remy Vercoutre's goal.

The hosts soon hit back. Wallace was penalised for handball inside the area and Feret made no mistake from the spot to score his fourth of the season in the 64th minute.

Monaco, who had drawn their previous two games, were back in front five minutes later after a jinking run from Bernardo Silva ended with him sliding the ball across the goalmouth and Yahia could only poke it past his own keeper, with Lacina Traore waiting.

The visitors looked to be on course for three points, but an 88th-minute corner found its way to Kouakou and the striker swivelled acrobatically to send the ball between the legs of Danijel Subasic.
