Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman see Bayern Munich win at Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 11 points with a third straight win as they beat Wolfsburg 2-0 on Saturday.

Kingsley Coman put Pep Guardiola's men in front in the 66th minute, with Robert Lewandowski adding their second eight minutes later.

Wolfsburg could not repeat Juventus' recovery against Bayern in midweek and knew they could slip even further away from the top six this weekend following their latest defeat.

Bayern were left to see how second-placed Borussia Dortmund would respond when hosting Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Bayern had a good early opportunity to take the lead, but Naldo cleared Douglas Costa's shot off the line.

The Bavarians continued to attack like they had done at Juventus on Tuesday, with Wolfsburg penned into their own half defending.

Xabi Alonso missed the target with one shot while Lewandowski sent an effort high and wide.

Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels may have wished he had stayed in bed with the flu virus which had left doubts over his involvement, as he was kept extremely busy by a Bayern attack intent on getting the job done as quickly as possible.

A rare attack at the other end saw Naldo test Manuel Neuer from long distance, before the same Wolfsburg defender had their next shot on goal from a free-kick, Neuer again making a save.

The offside flag came to Wolfsburg's rescue 10 minutes into the second half when Thomas Muller squared for Lewandowski, who only had to stroke the ball into an open goal, but he was instead forced to wait for his 23rd of the season by a controversial decision.

Guardiola sent Franck Ribery on for Arjen Robben to give a different dimension to his side's attack and it was he who dribbled through three Wolfsburg defenders before leaving Lewandowski to tee up Coman to put the visitors in front midway through the second half.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking responded by removing the defensive Christian Trasch and sending on the attack-minded Andre Schurrle, but his side were soon two behind.

Ribery turned Coman's cross on for Lewandowski, who scored his 23rd of the season from just inside the penalty area.

Bayern had chances to add a third goal, while Wolfsburg only had one shot from Max Kruse to show for their half-hearted attempt to get back into the game.

That was saved easily by Neuer, who kept another clean sheet as Bayern moved another step closer to a fourth straight Bundesliga title.
