Neymar scores twice to help Brazil cruise past U.S. in friendly

Neymar scored twice as Brazil controlled the United States in a 4-1 win in a friendly on Tuesday in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The Americans were outpaced by the five-time World Cup champions in their final tune-up before the crucial CONCACAF Cup against Mexico in October, only getting on the scoreboard in second-half stoppage time.

Even with star forward Neymar starting on the bench, Brazil appeared ready to begin World Cup qualifying as they pressured the U.S. from the start.

Brazil opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Willian ran past Alejandro Bedoya to the touchline.

His high cross caromed off the inside of the far post before falling right into the path of Hulk, who fired into the back of the net.

Brazil defender Miranda then picked up a knock and had to be replaced by Marquinhos after 20 minutes in what was the only real negative of the night for the visitors.

The Americans' best chance of the first half came soon after when DeAndre Yedlin's cross found a charging Jozy Altidore but the striker could not find the ball at his feet while being pressured from behind.

Yedlin proved dangerous again before the half-hour mark with a pass to Michael Bradley, who could manage only a tame shot from 15 yards.

With Willian continuing to cause trouble for the U.S., Jurgen Klinsmann replaced Bedoya with the speedier Danny Williams in the 36th minute.

Neymar made an immediate impact for Brazil when he came on at half-time, drawing a foul from Geoff Cameron in the box and slamming the resulting penalty past Brad Guzan to make it 2-0.

Brazil continued to press forward and the U.S. struggled to keep up with Michael Orozco and Williams picking up yellow cards while interrupting attacks.

Rafinha scored his first international goal in the 64th minute following a counter-attack. The Barcelona forward danced with the ball at his feet to shake U.S. defender Tim Ream and shoot past Guzan to make it 3-0.

Soon after, Rafinha stepped over a pass and Neymar had plenty of time to score at the near post to extend the advantage to 4-0.

Rafinha could quickly have made it 5-0 but his shot from 12 yards rolled past the post.

Klinsmann put on forwards Bobby Wood, Jordan Morris and Aron Johannsson, but a scuffed shot from Mix Diskerud with seven minutes to play was the most the U.S. subs could muster until stoppage time.

Williams was given space and shook off some frustration by unleashing a rocket from 30 yards that was small consolation for the outmatched Americans.
