Neymar and Luis Suarez strike again as Barcelona beat Villarreal to top La Liga

Neymar and Luis Suarez continued their fine goal-scoring form for Barcelona as Luis Enrique's side provisionally moved top of La Liga with a hard-fought 3-0 win over Villarreal at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

The Brazil captain broke a determined Villarreal defence after a fine Sergio Busquets pass on the hour, Suarez netted from the penalty spot 10 minutes later before Neymar hit a goal-of-the-season contender with a stunning turn and volley five minutes from time.

Both sides had chances in an entertaining first half, with Claudio Bravo forced into a block from Samu Castillejo at a narrow angle after Jordi Alba had slipped on the stroke of half-time.

Jeremy Mathieu had earlier tested Alphonse Areola with a low shot after an 80-yard run forward, while Areola denied Davi Alves shortly after the break with a fine stop at his near post.

Suarez and Neymar were both booked within seconds of each other for protesting a drop-ball decision after the latter was knocked over, though the Selecao skipper soon crossed for compatriot Alves to force Areola into another superb stop.

It didn't take long for Neymar to open the scoring for Barca, controlling and finishing from a superb Busquets pass after Villarreal had gifted possession to the midfielder 40 yards out.

Areola then denied Andres Iniesta with a low stop from 10 yards, but could do nothing about Barca's second as Suarez sent him the wrong way from the spot after Munir El Haddadi was taken out by Jaume Costa.

Neymar wrapped up the points with an astounding turn from Suarez's cross, flicking the ball over his head before volleying home a low finish past Areola.

The win sends Barca top of the table at least until Real Madrid's trip to Sevilla later on Sunday evening.
