Shkodran Mustafi's header steers Valencia clear of Granada

Shkodran Mustafi's header saw Valencia get back to winning ways in a hard-fought Primera Division clash with Granada.

Defeats to Zenit St Petersburg and Espanyol either side of a goalless home draw with Real Betis left manager Nuno calling for his team to get back on track.

It was not always the most convincing of responses from Los Che, but Mustafi's first-half goal secured a 1-0 win against Granada much to the relief of the Mestalla faithful.

The Andalusian visitors started well enough as Javi Marquez and Isaac Success had efforts, with the former forcing a decent save out of goalkeeper Jaume Domenech in the 23rd minute.

However, just three minutes later Valencia struck the decisive blow as Mustafi headed home.

After the initial corner was initial cleared by Granada, a fine cross from Zakaria Bakkali was powered home by the Germany international.

The visitors returned to the attack undeterred, though, and came close to restoring parity when Youssef El-Arabi struck the crossbar.

Alvaro Negredo struck into the side-netting after quick feet from Joao Cancelo, but Granada again came close when Domenech thwarted Ruben Rochina's wonderful, goalbound free kick.

Paco Alcacer had a second-half goal chalked off for offside before forcing goalkeeper Andres into action, while Mustafi had another dangerous headed effort.

Sofiane Feghouli was denied in a one-on-one as Valencia upped the ante and, while Fran Rico's overhead strike off the bar was a warning shot, one which would not have counted due to a foul, three points would go to the hosts.
