Lille rally in second half to stun French leaders Lyon

Lille produced a spirited second-half fightback to stun Ligue 1 leaders Lyon 2-1 at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday afternoon.

All looked to be going to script for Les Gones when Corentin Tolisso put them ahead after just three minutes, but Idrissa Gueye and Marcos Lopes turned the game on its head after the interval.

The result handed champions Paris Saint-Germain the chance to go top of the table when they visit Monaco on Sunday evening.

Current league leaders Lyon wasted no time in stamping their authority on this game, when Nabil Fekir's corner found Tolisso at the near post and the young defender swept the ball home from close range to silence the home crowd.

Shocked by the opener, the hosts struggled early on and a solitary speculative strike from Ryan Mendes, which ended up in the stands, was all Lille had to shout about in the opening quarter.

Clearly unhappy with what he was seeing, Lille coach Rene Girard opted to make a change with little over five minutes of the half to play, bringing off Mendes for Jonathan Delaplace, but his side remained a goal down at the interval.

However, Les Dogues did not have to wait long after the restart to cancel out Lyon's advantage.

Following some neat build-up work on the edge of the visitors' box, Gueye played a clever one-two with Marcos Lopes before poking the ball beyond Anthony Lopes from close range.

Then, just a few minutes after levelling, Girard's men went one better when Marcos Lopes picked up possession 35 yards out and, after holding off the challenge of Maxime Gonalons, sent a clinical effort beyond his namesake to complete the turnaround.

Lyon responded and only a superb stop from Vincent Enyeama prevented Henri Bedimo from scoring a close-range leveller.

Lille could have had a third goal on the counter-attack but Delaplace was denied by a smart Lopes save after being released into the area by Kevin Koubemba.

Hubert Fournier's side huffed and puffed late on, and could have had a penalty when Alexandre Lacazette took a tumble under Simon Kjaer's challenge before Enyeama made another excellent save to keep out Christophe Jallet's stinging half-volley, but ultimately their efforts were in vain as Lille claimed all three points.
