Chivas Guadalajara and Club America share the spoils in Super Clasico

Aldo de Nigris netted a second half equalizer for Chivas in Mexico's Super Clasico to draw 1-1 against Club America, leaving Chivas top of Mexico's first division.

Paul Aguilar had given America the lead in the 16th minute with a stunning right-footed strike from 25 yards that crashed off the crossbar and over the line.

Chivas dominated possession in Mexico's most important game and almost leveled the scores earlier, when a glancing header from Omar Bravo in the 25th forced America keeper Moises Munoz into a stretched save.

The game was played out mainly in midfield and saw few clear-cut chances, with America resting key striker Oribe Peralta ahead of the club's CONCACAF Champions League final second leg against Montreal Impact on Wednesday.

America is in seventh position in the league -- three points behind Chivas -- with two rounds of games remaining in the regular season of the Clausura championship.

Club America has dominated the rivalry recently, with Chivas now five games without a win in the Super Clasico.
