Paris Saint-Germain beat Rennes to tie Ligue 1 season points total record

Zlatan Ibrahimovic took his season's tally to 34 Ligue 1 goals with a brace in Paris Saint-Germain's dominant 4-0 win over Rennes.

With the win, PSG have tied the Ligue 1 season points record of 89, which they set in the 2013-14 season.

The French champions were kept at bay in the first half, but would not be stopped after the break, Maxwell getting the ball rolling with a wonderful solo effort before Ibrahimovic took over.

The enigmatic Swede was pictured partying on a week off in Las Vegas, but showed his finishing instincts had not been dulled, leaping and stretching at the far post to poke home Angel Di Maria's curling cross.

He then added a classy second when he collected Javier Pastore's pass on the instep, outmuscled his marker and rifled home off the underside of the crossbar.

Edinson Cavani completed the rout in stoppage-time, having earlier hit a post and been denied by Benoit Costil.

Despite enjoying plenty of possession, PSG needed 24 minutes to conjure a decent opening, only for Cavani to lift over the top from close range.

Moments later Ibrahimovic slipped while attempting a shot of his own, but he was merely getting started.

He did better with a 34th-minute free kick, earned by Pastore, but could not get his effort to dip under the bar.

When Di Maria grazed a post just before half-time it was the end of Rennes' luck.

Maxwell opened the floodgates in the 50th minute, beating one man and nutmegging a second before finding the net.

Ibrahimovic followed up in the 54th and 78th minute and, after Costel worked hard to keep it to three, Cavani provided the gloss.
