Borussia Dortmund ease past Borussia Monchengladbach

Thomas Tuchel celebrated an emphatic start to life as coach of Borussia Dortmund with his side putting four past Borussia Monchengladbach with no reply on Saturday evening.

Marco Reus got the ball rolling in Dortmund's first season in seven years without Jurgen Klopp sitting on their bench.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a second before Henrikh Mkhitaryan struck either side of the interval to complete a comprehensive 4-0 win which signals Dortmund's intent for the season.

Mkhitaryan, who had shown some of his best form since moving to the Bundesliga two years ago during pre-season, thought he had given Dortmund the lead in the eighth minute, but the offside flag was raised to deny him.

Dortmund's fans did not have to wait long before being able to celebrate a valid goal, with Mats Hummels' pass touched on by Shinji Kagawa to Reus, whose powerful shot beat Yann Sommer inside his near post after a quarter of an hour.

Hummels was involved in Dortmund's second with his ball wide to Marcel Schmelzer delivered for Aubameyang to head past Sommer.

Great counter-attack from Dortmund with Aubameyang using his pace to burst clear of the last defender from Ilkay Gundogan's pass and tee up Mkhitaryan for the easiest of finishes.

Mkhitaryan added his second of the game early in the second half, finishing off another flowing move with Reus pulling the ball back for the Armenian to drill into the top left-hand corner.

The smiles on Tuchel's face told the story of a dream start to his first job since leaving Mainz a year ago, once again as Klopp's successor and with a performance reminiscent of the better times Dortmund experienced in recent years.
