Denmark, Albania miss chance to top Group I, settle for goalless draw

Denmark and Albania missed out on the chance to go top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group I as they could only play out a goalless draw in Copenhagen.

Group leaders Portugal were in friendly action on Friday night, which meant with a victory either side could have at least temporarily topped the table and stolen a march for the second guaranteed qualifying spot. As it is they are now both level on 11 points with two games remaining.

Denmark boss Morten Olsen sprang a surprise with a youthful look to his side as he included 21-year-old Riza Durmisi, 20-year-old Pione Sisto and Copenhagen's Nicolai Jorgensen.

That decision almost paid off early on for the hosts, who needed a Lasse Vibe equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw when these sides met earlier in the campaign, as Sisto went close to breaking the deadlock.

The Midtjylland forward had the first shot of the game in the 15th minute, firing straight at goalkeeper Etrit Berisha after impressively tricking his way past Albania captain Lorik Cana.

He continued to be a bright spark for the Danes, who were missing Tottenham talisman Christian Eriksen due to a knee injury, but they were unable to take advantage and it remained goalless at the break.

The hosts fashioned the best chance of the game on the hour mark, but Jorgensen's strong header from Jakob Poulsen's corner was well gathered by Albania keeper Etrit Berisha to preserve the 0-0 draw.
