Getafe were relegated from the Primera Division after second-half goals from German Pezzella and Ruben Castro secured Real Betis a 2-1 home win. Getafe began the day outside the bottom three on goal difference but victory for relegation rivals Sporting Gijon saw them slip into the second tier for the first time since 2004. Juan Rodriguez's early header threatened to give Getafe a flying start but his effort was saved by Betis goalkeeper Dani Gimenez, while the visitors went close through similar efforts in quick succession from Stefan Scepovic and Pablo Sarabia midway through the first half. Betis had to wait until the 25th minute for their first effort on goal when Dani Ceballos' drive from outside the penalty area flashed wide. Gimenez saved well to deny Getafe again in the 35th minute as Jorge Molina fired goalwards from inside the box and Pedro Leon went closer for the visitors in the 42nd minute with a bullet of a shot that flew inches wide of the top corner. Pedro Leon and Scepovic both saw efforts on goal early in the second half saved but Pezzella broke the deadlock for Betis in the 56th minute when he headed home Joaquin's cross. Getafe continued to press and went close again through Pablo Sarabia, but in the 72nd minute Damian Suarez was penalised for his challenge on Charly Musonda in the penalty area and Ruben Castro converted from the spot. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 75th minute when Emiliano Buendia was shown a straight red card for his foul on Dani Ceballos and although Alvaro Medran's thumping drive in the 84th minute set up a frantic finale, Getafe could not find an equaliser.
