Cain hits tiebreaking double in 8th, Royals beat Cubs 8-4

CHICAGO -- The rainy, windy, and cold late May day didn't damper the Chicago Cubs' mood.

Joe Maddon and his coaching staff and players posed for a picture on the wet tarp wearing Chicago Blackhawks sweaters in anticipation of Game 7 of the NHL Western Conference finals between the Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.

The Cubs will get to focus on hockey after their game with the Kansas City Royals was rained out on Saturday night.

The Cubs quickly tweeted the picture which got a response from the Blackhawks' Twitter account thanking them for the support.

A makeup date at Wrigley Field was set for Sept. 28 at 7:05 p.m. on the final Monday of the regular season.

Maddon obviously hopes the Blackhawks' success carries over to the Cubs, but he wants to keep things in perspective.

On Friday night, he stopped in a Chicago tavern for a burger and beer and ended up sitting down with some random fans.

"There was four guys sitting at a table there. One guy recognized me and invited me to sit down with them and I did. For about a half hour I just (talked) with the guys. `Do you realize what it is going to be like ...' I really appreciate that every time I hear that, but I don't sit there and process it all the way out. I don't need to," he said. "I know it's attached, but my approach is today. And if you do enough today right, then eventually gets to that particular tomorrow."

The Royals are scheduled to begin a series with the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 29.

"It fits in perfectly. A mutual day off and we were coming to play the White Sox anyway the day after. Actually it fits in very well," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said.

Saturday night's scheduled starters will both be pushed back to Sunday. The Royals' Yordano Ventura (3-4) is scheduled to make his 10th start of the season, and the Cubs' Tsuyoshi Wada (0-0) is slated to make his third start.

On Saturday, the Royals activated outfielder Alex Rios from the 15-day disabled list. He broke his left hand when he was hit by a pitch from Twins pitcher J.R. Graham and has been out since April 13. In a four game rehab stint with Triple-A Omaha he was 3 for 17.
