(ESPNdeportes.com services)--The Aragua Tigers (Venezuela) handed the Mazatlan Deer (Mexico) their first loss, while the Cibao Eagles (Dominican Republic) defeated the Mayaguez Indians (Puerto Rico) on Day 4 of the Caribbean World Series in Mazatlan, Mexico. A towering three run home run by Alex Cabrera, who in recent years has made his mark in Japan, was the difference for Venezuela (3-1), which moved into a first place tie with Mexico (3-1) in the 12-game, round robin tournament. Walter Silva, who have up Cabrera's blast in the seventh inning, took the loss for Mexico, while Tim McClasky picked up the win in relief with help from Elio Serrano, who saved his first game of the Series. Derrick White and Trent Hubbard homered for Mexico. In the first game Friday, the Dominican Republic (1-2) blanked Puerto Rico 8-0, with seven strong innings from right hander Doug Linton, who gave up four hits and struck out eight. Former Major League catcher Alberto Castillo went 2-4 for the Dominicans, with a home run and two RBI. Atlanta Braves shortstop Rafael Furcal also went deep for the D.R., who with the victory is still in the hunt for the title in Mazatlan. Jonathan Albadalejo took the loss for Puerto Rico (0-3), which has now lost 11 consecutive Caribbean World Series games dating back to 2003.
