Figueroa Momo spot on for Las Palmas against Malaga

Las Palmas moved level on points with La Liga leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid after a 1-0 win over Malaga in Gran Canaria.

An early penalty from Figueroa Momo proved enough to give Los Amarillos a third league win of the new season and leave Juande Ramos' side still in search of a first victory.

Quique Setien's men made a flying start on their return to Estadio Gran Canaria, having lost at Seville last weekend when conceding two late goals.

Momo put them in front from the penalty spot after just nine minutes, the forward having been upended by a rash challenge from Malaga midfielder Jose Recio.

Malaga, who had drawn twice ahead of last weekend's home defeat by Villarreal, looked dangerous on the counter-attack but could not make their openings count.

When Nacho Camacho did get clear down the right, he sent an angled 20-yard drive over.

Ramos made a double change after 54 minutes as Recio was replaced by Youssef En-Nesyri and Sandro Ramirez came on for Gonzalo Castro.

With nine minutes left, Malaga finally created their best chance but after a run down the right from En-Nesyri saw the ball drop to Dias Charles in the six-yard box, the striker could only lash it over the crossbar.

At the other end, Las Palmas substitute Sergio Araujo sliced his shot wide after being put clear but was belatedly given offside.

In stoppage time, Araujo clipped the outside of a post with a low shot from the edge of the Malaga penalty area.
