The stars shine bright on ESPN in July with more regular season Major League Baseball (MLB) plus one of the season's most popular events, All-Star Weekend.
Leading ESPN's coverage during All-Star Weekend is the Home Run Derby, a power-hitting competition spotlighting the sport's most dazzling sluggers, and the main event itself, the 85th All-Star Game, where the NL All-Stars take on the AL All-Stars for bragging rights as the strongest league and, more importantly, home-field advantage in the World Series.
Last year's Midsummer Classic boasted a record 39 first-time All-Stars, making it a fitting showcase for baseball's next generation. It was won by the American League (AL), who broke a three-game skid while giving New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera a fitting close to his memorable All-Star career.
