Bayern Munich spoil Pep Guardiola return with 1-0 win versus Man City

Carlo Ancelotti's home debut as manager of Bayern Munich produced a 1-0 victory against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

A goal from 20-year-old Bayern debutant Erdal Ozturk was the only tally of the match to spoil Pep Guardiola's return to Munich.

Two experimental sides went in goalless at the break. City's overworked goalkeeper Willy Caballero pulled out a series of tremendous reflex saves to keep Bayern at bay during the opening period.

Austrian David Alaba, returning after his Euro 2016 break, was denied by Caballero on 17 minutes at point-blank range after exchanging passes with the lively Franck Ribery.

U.S. international Julian Green, banished to the reserves during Guardiola's tenure, twice had the goal at his mercy but failed to beat Joe Hart's understudy in the opening half.

Ancelotti made a host of changes at halftime, removing Ribery, Alaba and Xabi Alonso to give this Bayern B team even more of a makeshift look. Youngers Ozturk, Niklas Dorsch and Daniel Hagler filled in with aplomb.

Spanish internationals Javi Martinez and Juan Bernat followed down the tunnel after 65 minutes, as Bayern B weakened and City gained more of a foothold.

Bayern's lead came against the run of play with 14 minutes remaining when substitute Ozturk beat City's substitute keeper Angus Gunn with a shot that took a wicked deflection off French defender Gael Clichy.

The Bavarians held on to their hard-fought lead with the minimum of fuss to give Ancelotti a winning start in Munich against his predecessor.
