PSG perfect start ended by Bordeaux in 2-2 draw

Paris St. Germain's 100 percent start to the Ligue 1 season ended on Friday night when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bordeaux in an eventful match at the Parc des Princes.

Edinson Cavani struck twice in the first half for the champions -- the first after a goalkeeping error and the second a fine free-kick -- with Henri Saivet on target for the visitors in between.

Saivet's needless dismissal for a reckless foul on Marco Verratti 13 minutes from time looked to have given Les Girondins an uphill task to get anything from the game, but a ponderous moment from PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp proved costly moments later as Wahbi Khazri pounced for the equaliser.

There was further drama after the full-time whistle as tempers frayed, with Cavani and Bordeaux midfielder Nicolas Maurice-Belay involved in a heated exchange which required both players to be held back by team-mates. Both were booked.

Laurent Blanc's side headed into the game without forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to an abdominal injury, but having won all of their first four games of the campaign.

The hosts seemed determined to extend that run and, after Angel Di Maria had seen an early effort deflected just wide, they received a helping hand from an unlikely source on 27 minutes.

Visiting goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso inexplicably opted to deal with a routine long-range shot not by catching it but by letting it bounce off his chest and into the vicinity of Cavani, who took a touch to tee himself up and then lashed a fine finish high into the net.

At the other end soon after, though, Trapp managed not to cover himself in much glory either.

Saivet met a 31st-minute near-post corner from Khazri with a glancing header which the goalkeeper got his body behind but allowed to bounce up off his stomach and into the net - the first goal he had conceded in almost 400 minutes of football.

The visitors were level for just three minutes, however, before Cavani restored PSG's lead by whipping a superb free-kick around the wall, giving Carrasso no chance.

Verratti was becoming more and more influential as the game wore on, and it was his through-ball which set Maxwell away down the left to set up Cavani for a hat-trick opportunity, but the Uruguayan was just unable to get on the end of the Brazilian's cross.

Trapp, no doubt keen to make amends for his earlier blunder, produced a sharp save to keep his side in front midway through the second period when he kept out Enzo Crivelli's towering header from a Khazri free-kick.

Trailing 2-1, Bordeaux captain Saivet appeared to have dug his side into a deeper hole after 77 minutes when he earned a second yellow card for a clumsy lunge on Verratti.

But within two minutes the visitors were level - and again it was one Trapp will not want to see again.

The PSG keeper had ample time to deal with a back-pass, but wanted far too long on the ball and was caught out by Khazri, who then made no mistake with an empty net at his mercy.

The home fans were stunned. Their team tried for a late winner, substitute Ezequiel Lavezzi denied by a brilliant Carrasso save in the 82nd minute and Serge Aurier blasting a half-volley over the bar in stoppage time, but there were no further goals.

The result saw PSG's winning Ligue 1 run halted at 13 matches.
