April features LIVE coverage on ESPN of the season's first major championship, the renowned Masters Tournament, which returns yearly to legendary Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
Along with the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship, the Masters forms part of the four majors, golf's most prestigious tournaments that are essential on the resume of any golfer who hopes to be considered among the sport's elite.
Last year saw Adam Scott knock in a 12-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole against Argentina's Ángel Cabrera to claim his first major championship and become the first Australian to win the Masters.
The lineup here is always star-studded, with expected competitors including Scott and 2013 yearend No. 1 Tiger Woods, also a past Masters champion, plus other top-ranked pros including England's Justin Rose, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, defending FedEx Cup champion Henrik Stenson, and U.S. talents Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker and Matt Kuchar.
Also airing on ESPN is the entertaining lead-in to the Masters Tournament, the Par 3 Contest. Dating back more than 50 years, this Wednesday tradition at the Masters allows golfers, family members and invited guests to try their luck on the August National Golf Club's tough Par 3 Course. While this event sets the stage for the more serious action to come, no Par 3 winner has ever gone on to win the Masters.
